about Cougar Rock
Cougar Rock is a frontcountry car campground, so it doesn't use the Rainier
backcountry campsite reservation system.
|
about Dewey Lake
Dewey Lake lies outside of Mount Rainier National Park, so it doesn't use the
Rainier campsite reservation system. It's included as an option here because
camping somewhere along that section of the PCT can be useful for making a
loop by connecting the Laughingwater Creek trail at Three Lakes to the
northern end of the Eastside Trail at Tipsoo Lake.
|
about Longmire
There are no campsites at Longmire, but you could book a night at the
National Park Inn if you fancy staying here to enjoy a hot shower and
restaurant meal.
|
about alternate routes
If there is more than one route between two locations, this page will measure
the shortest one, except for trail segments in the northwest corner of the
park (around Mowich Lake / Ipsut Pass / Spray Park / Carbon River) where
choice of route is determined by the via Spray Park option.
For finer control over alternate route selection, you can choose a different
via option for each day of your trip.
To check which way was measured, move your cursor over or tap on the distance
for a day, and you'll see a tooltip listing all the locations along that
day's trail.

about the Auto buttons
Clicking the Auto CW or Auto CCW button will generate a
suggested clockwise or counter-clockwise Wonderland itinerary using your
current trip duration, start trailhead, finish trailhead, and via Spray
Park settings. Campsites will be spaced as evenly as possible around the
loop in the chosen direction.
This feature only supports full or partial Wonderland circuits, not other
trails such as the Northern Loop or Eastside Loop. If you pick trailheads
that are not on the Wonderland, it will choose a route that connects from
them to the Wonderland.
